Knee structure

The knee is the largest joint of the human body. It consists of different elements and is consequently very complex. It is a swivel with two degrees of freedom. It consists of two joints. The joint between thigh and lower leg and the joint between femur and kneecap. It is therefore the connection between both legs and it is constructed, that a mobility of 150 degree is possible. Besides ligaments, menisci and cruciate ligaments the kneecap (patella) is very important for stability and  joint function of the knee. The kneecap is stored in a tendon. The tendon end under the kneecap on the top of the patella tendon. Here is the origin of the patella tendinitis. The insertion tendons of the quadriceps femoris sets at the top of the patella tendon. The patella tendon transfers the strength of the muscle to the lower leg. Synovial bursae protect against friction demage.
